    Weft Knitting

    Juni 2nd, 2015

Weft knitting is a type of knitting characterized by a “V” structure on the fabric’s right side and a loop structure on the wrong side. The loops of every horizontal row interlock with the yarns of the two adjacent rows. Weft knitting is the most common knitting technique and can be done using on yarn or separate yarns for each horizontal row. When knitted with one yarn, weft knitting can be done by hand.

    Warp Knitting

    Juni 2nd, 2015

Warp knitting is a type of knitting characterized by a zigzag structure along the length of the fabric. The fabric is created by leading yarns lengthwise towards the bottom of the fabric, interlocking with the yarns of the adjacent vertical rows, whereas weft knitting is done horizontally. A separate yarn is required for each row, therefore it is difficult to knit by hand. Warp knitted fabrics are resistant to runs and can easily be sewn.

    Wrist Watch

    September 23rd, 2014

A wrist watch is a watch worn around the wrist, attached with decorative straps, chains or bracelets. It is the successor of the first portable watch – the pocket watch, which could be carried due to the use of mechanical springs. The wrist watch became popular in the late 16th century, soon after the pocket watch had been invented but at first was barely worn by men owing to its feminine perception. With the beginning of WWI function overpowered form and men began to wear wrist watches. While the pocket watch is rarely used today the wrist watch has stayed popular and is mostly a fashion item and a display of wealth.

    Wedge Shoe

    Juni 21st, 2013

Wedge shoes, also known as ‘wedges’ or ‘wedge heels’ are shoes that have a heel in form of a wedge, which means the sole and the heel are made of the same piece of material. First worn in ancient Greece wedge shoes became popular in modern Europe when Salvatore Ferragamo showed them in his fashion shows in the 1930s. Wedge heels do not necessarily have to have a high heel as there are also flat wedge shoes. Wedge shoes are mostly worn by women but men’s versions of wedge heels have been designed lately.

A waterfall collar is a collar found on jackets, blouses and cardigans that is draped from the neck and “falls” to the bottom of the garment. The collar is made with more fabric than necessary resulting in overlapping and draping of the fabric and gives this collar it’s name and can make it look like the wearer is wearing a shawl or scarf. Garments with a waterfall collar may have a belt but usually do not have any other kind of closure.
