Azzedine Alaia
The Tunisian-born couturier and shoe-designer is working in the fashion industry since the 1980s. Back then he started producing ready-to-wear designs and moved to larger premises in France. By 1988, he had opened his own boutiques in New York, Beverly Hills and Paris. Known for his seductive, clinging clothes which were a massive success, he was named by the media ‘The King of Cling’. Alaia still refuses the marketing-driven logic of luxury conglomerates nowadays. He is revered for his independence and passion for discreet luxury and that’s why he is continuing to focus on clothes rather than “it-bags”.
