A button-dress-shirt or also button-down-shirt, button-front shirt in American English or simply shirt is a traditional full-length shirt with an opening at the front from the collar to the hem, and sleeves with cuffs. It refers to a shirt with an American “button-down” collar that was invented in 1896 by Brooks Brothers. This specific kind of button-down-shirt is usually used by men only, since women usually wear blouses. They were first worn in the 1950s by collage boys and later by girls also.
