Charmeuse is a lightweight fabric woven with a satin weave that can be made of silk or a synthetic lookalike such as polyester. It resembles the plain satin and only differs because charmeuse is softer and lighter in weight. The original side aka front side of the fabric has a satin finish, while its back has only a dull finish. The silk charmeuse is in general softer, lighter in weight, more delicate then the polyester charmeuse and can’t withstand machine washing. It’s therefore a more expensive fabric to buy.
