    Jean-Paul Gaultier

Jean-Paul Gaultier, French haute couture designer, born 1952 in France. The designer who is best known for the ‘enfant terrible’ (terrible child) of French fashion, founded his namesake fashion label in 1976. With no formal training as a fashion designer, Gaultier started his career in fashion at an early age, drawing sketches and sending them to well known high-end fashion stylists. In 1985, the French designer caused a shock in the fashion’s world by introducing the man-skirt that never appeared before in fashion. He also booked unusual models for his fashion shows such as pierced, tattooed or full-figured models, which made him even more popular. Gaultier’s ready-to-wear collections have often been inspired by street wear and different cultures, while his haute couture collections have been super chic, very formal but also unusual and playful at the same time.
