    Pocket Watch

A pocket watch is a watch that is carried in the pocket as opposed to the wrist watch which is worn strapped around the wrist. The pocket watch was the first portable watch and first was invented and used in the 16th century in Europe after spring driven clocks had been invented. A pocket watch is typically attached to a piece of clothing such as the waistcoat, belt or lapel with a decorative chain to prevent it from getting damaged when dropped.Pocket watches were popular, especially for men up to the beginning of the 20th century, as the by then invented wrist watches were considered feminine. With the beginning of WWI the functionality of the wrist watch made it more popular for men, as it allowed to tell the time hands free.
