A ring is a piece of jewelry that is worn on one or more fingers and usually consists of a band of metal, plastic, stone or glass. This band is often decorated with a gemstone such as a ruby, diamond or almost any other material. Rings were already worn by ancient Egyptians and Greek and were very popular in the Middle Ages. The tradition of trading rings is approximately 6000 years old and is common in most parts of the world. In most countries and cultures the wedding ring is worn around the ring finger of the left hand although some cultures wear it on the right hand. The origin of putting rings on the ring finger of the left hand comes from the old belief that there is a vein that leads straight from the left ring finger to the heart.
