    Yves Saint Laurent

Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint-Laurent, aka Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) was an Algerian-born French fashion designer. YSL was born on August 1st, 1936 and he died on June 1st, 2008. He was one of the greatest names in French fashion during the 20th century.Saint Laurent began his fashion career as the star graduate of the Chambre Syndicale fashion school as a talanted design assistant at the French couture house Christian Dior in 1955. After Dior’s death in 1957, the 21 year old created the first Dior collection in just 9 weeks. The clothes were as meticulously made and perfectly proportioned as Dior’s in the same exquisite fabrics, but the young designer Saint Laurent made them softer, lighter and easier to wear. Celebrated as the national hero, the new collection was a sensation. After joining the French army a couple of years later, YSL returned but opened his own namesake couture house.
