Fashion History Classics: Who invented the Chanel Costume?
Chanel helped popularize the bob hairstyle, the little black dress, the use of jersey knit for women’s clothing and also elevated the status of both costume jewelry and knitwear. In 1954 Chanel invented her last master piece – the Chanel Costume, a classic piece among sophisticated business women. Its mottled tweet-fabric, the hips-long blazer-jacket with single-breasted gold buttons and the slightly exposed fitting skirt was typical for her costume and is still a trendsetter in a slightly adverted form.
