Fashion History Classics: Who invented the Marlene Trousers?

German Hollywood actress Marlene Dietrich was the first woman wearing trousers in the 1930s. It was a scandal because till the 70s trousers were only official made for men and women only had worn skirts and dresses. Frequently shown pictures of actress Marlene Dietrich in trousers helped to make the item acceptable for women back at the time.

Finally during World War II women began wearing trousers at least for industrial work and in the post-war era pants became acceptable casual wear for gardening, the beach, and other leisurely pursuits. Although Marlen Dietrich’s liking for pants was a scandal to that time, the society named the trousers after her due to her self-confidence in wearing them. Since of the 1970s pants became especially fashionable for women and until now the Marlen’s Trousers were recognized for its high and tinny waist cut and its flagging cut at the thighs and ankles.
