Plaid pattern is a woven pattern constructed of different colored lines crossing in a right angle. It is the American and Canadian English word for tartan. It is often associated with Scottish kilts, as the kilts worn for centuries by the Scottish have always been made of tartan or tartan-like fabrics. Today, tartan aka plaid pattern is worn as flannel shirts, pants and kilts especially in punk fashion and has become the trademark of some brands such as Barbour or Burberry.

The argyle pattern is a pattern consisting of diamond shaped rectangles on a background of different color. Often a second pattern is designed on top of the diamonds. This second pattern in most cases consists of diagonally crossing lines in a contrasting color. This overlap of designs is supposed to give the pattern depth and 3-dimentionality.The argyle pattern originates in the tartan pattern that has been used on Scottish kilts and socks since the 17th century. Today, argyle patterns are popular on sweaters and socks.

A trench coat is a weather-proof coat that was invented in 1914 by fashion designer Thomas Burberry aka Burberry. The trench coat he came up with included straps and D-rings that were especially made for the British soldiers in World War I. The coat became very popular as a classic style after the War due to the water-proof fabric. It was produced as a double-breasted civilian coat with large lapels, a matching belt, convertible collar and a vent in the back. It still remains as one of the essential items in fashion.
