A glove is a piece of clothing that either covers a part of or the entire hand to protect from heat, cold, injuries and dirt. Gloves have existed for over 3000 years and were already worn in ancient Egypt, Rome and Greece. Gloves can also have a symbolic meaning such as white gloves on a priest that stand for purity or on royalty as a symbol of power and wealth. Gloves can be made of leather, natural fibers such as cotton or silk or of synthetics such as rubber.  They could have separate compartments for each finger or one compartment for the thump and another for the other four fingers in which case they are called mittens. If a glove is fingerless it is called a glovelette.
