Let’s ask the Fashion-Dictionary: Who is Jacob Davis

    Dezember 3rd, 2011

Who knows him? Probably, you all do but I guess more the brand he was working for…

Must known fashion person #14: Jacob Davis

The Russian Jacob Davis used small copper rivets to reinforce and strengthen items including harnesses. In 1871 Davis decided to use the copper rivets to reinforce stress points in pants.  At the time, Davis made tents and wagon covers with cotton duck cloth, an off-white canvas-type material he bought from Levi Strauss & Co a San Francisco merchant. Davis’ copper-riveted pants and overalls, made of duck cloth, and later also denim, sold well.

Didn’t we all own at least one pair of Levi’s jeans back in the 90s? Maybe we still do? Jacob Davis was the man behind the brand for a long time until his death in 1908.
