    Single Jersey

    Single jersey is a knitted fabric produced on a knitting machine with a single row of needles. Single jersey fabrics have a different structure on the reverse side as on the front side. Single jersey has a slight natural elasticity, is very comfortable on the skin and is therefore mostly used for dresses, thin t-shirts, thin sweaters and underwear.

    Jersey is a soft, elastic, light and comfortable fabric that is made out of viscose, wool, cotton, silk or synthetic yarn. Jersey is most used for garments worn close to the skin such as underwear, t-shirts, women’s tops, dresses and for bed sheets. The name jersey comes from the channel island Jersey which was where jersey was first produced and which is until today one of the biggest exporters of jersey. Coco Chanel was the first in the fashion industry to use jersey for fashionable garments instead of just for underwear.
