Macrame is a form of textile production. Unlike other common forms of textile production such as weaving or knitting, the threads are not interlocked but knotted together. Macrame was first popularized by sailors, who decorated items such as knives and bottles and parts of their ships with the knotted fabric. Macrame can be made of most limp fibers and materials and is especially popular on leather and fabric belts.
