    Over-the-knee Boot

    Juni 21st, 2013

Over-the-knee boots cover the entire foot, calf and knee of the wearer. After firearms were invented in the 15th century men stopped wearing suits of armor and needed to find a new way to protect their legs when horseback riding. Over-the-knee boots were invented which were made of leather and therefore much lighter but still good protecting the wearer. Over-the-knee boots stayed popular for men from the 15th to the 19th century. In the 1960s, they were re-introduced to the fashion world by Cristobal Balenciaga as a women’s boot. He started to make over-the-knee boots part of his fashion shows and soon those boots were designed by many different designers in different colors, materials and designs. The fact that skirts were getting shorter in the 1960s also helped over-the-knee boots to gain popularity.

    High Heels

    Juni 21st, 2013

High heels are shoes that have an elevated heel that is between 10cm and 14cm high and therefore makes the wearer look taller and slimmer. High heels force the woman wearing them to walk on her tip toes, changes her posture and make her hips move more when walking which makes her looks sexier. Wearing high heels originates in the “patten shoes” which were first introduced by medieval Europeans. A short heel was added to shoes to make riding with stirrups more comfortable and soon “patten shoes” were worn by royalty in every day life for a taller appearance. Since WWII high heels have gone in and out of fashion. They are not practical, but esthetic and show off a woman’s sexuality.

    Oxfords

    Juni 21st, 2013

Technically any shoe that is a lace up can be called an oxford shoe. Usually when speaking of an oxford one is talking about a special kind of men’s shoe that has sticked shoe lace eyelets that are under the vamp of the shoe. Oxfords were first worn in Scotland and Ireland and are traditionally made of leather and are plain, though oxfords are also available in more extravagant designs. The name oxfords comes from the oxonian half boot that was typically worn at Oxford University. The toe cap of oxfords can either be decorated with two lines of stitching or with perforated holes and can be made of different materials such as calf leather, suede, patent leather or canvas. Conventionally they are brown or black and plain or ornately which makes them brogues.
